About me
Sergeant Krystal Laine has dedicated her career to serving and protecting the citizens of Hanover County, the community where she was born and raised. She joined the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office in 2013 after earning a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Criminal Justice. Sergeant Laine began her law enforcement career in the Patrol Division, where she developed a strong foundation in community-oriented policing and a steadfast commitment to public safety. In 2018, she was selected to serve as an Investigator in the General Investigations Division, specializing in Special Victims and crimes against children. In this role, she demonstrated a deep passion for protecting vulnerable populations and pursuing justice for victims of exploitation and abuse. During her investigative assignment, Sergeant Laine served on the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force and later as a Task Force Officer with the FBI Child Exploitation Task Force. Through these assignments, she worked collaboratively with federal, state, and local partners to investigate complex cases involving child exploitation, contributing to investigations with statewide and national impact. Sergeant Laine also serves as a negotiator on the Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Crisis Negotiation Team. In 2024, Sergeant Laine was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and currently serves in the Criminal Intelligence Division. In this role, she oversees intelligence operations and works closely with regional and state partners. She serves as a liaison to the Virginia Fusion Center and is a member of the Virginia State Police Behavioral Threat Management Team within the Homeland Security Division, supporting threat assessments and intelligence sharing across agencies. Sergeant Laine remains deeply committed to the safety and well-being of the community she calls home. A lifelong Hanover County resident, she is proud to serve the citizens of her county. Outside of her professional responsibilities, she is a proud wife and mother of two wonderful children.
