Lt. Col Alex Carney left active duty in 2017 as a decorated Special Operations Officer in the Marine Special Operations Command (MARSOC). He served as the ground force commander for dozens of high-risk direct action raids in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, and is the recipient of multiple awards for valor in combat, including the Bronze Star. He co-founded the Critical Response Group, which is dedicated to taking lessons learned from the battlefield and adapting them to improve incident planning and response at home. He has led active assailant planning and rehearsals for some of the highest-profile events in the country, including Burning Man. He has executed hundreds of training events across the country to assist public safety in improving usability and accessibility of mapping data for use in tactical response and decision making.
